Harbor Town is situated on the larger of two lakes between interstate 70 and interstate 64. Harbor Town consists of 156 Townhomes each owned by individual owners.
The lakes and community began in 1961 when Ellis Ellerman and Ira Nathan envisioned a lake large enough for recreation and close to the City of St. Louis. This vision ended up being two lakes, 650 acre Lake St. Louis and 70 acre Lake St. Louise. By 1967 several more investors had come and gone. Harbor Town Complex was built along interstate 70 on the large lake beginning around 1971. The complex was designed to be summer vacation homes for the affluent in St. Louis.
In 1974 with annexation looming from Wentzville on the West and O'Fallon on the East the residents of Harbor Town petitioned St. Charles County for incorporation under the name Harbor Town. The Court granted the petition in June 1975. In December 1975 the boundaries were changed to include the western boundaries of the current City. In 1977 a vote was taken to change the name to Lake St. Louis and become a 4th Class City.
Harbor Town today is a subdivision of the City of Lake St. Louis. Harbor Town consists of 23 acres on the shores of Lake St. Louis. The complex has a boardwalk with 64 boat slips, a small beach for our residents and a swimming pool. The “Harbor Town Area Association” is the official name of the Corporation. The Association is managed by 6 elected Directors who oversee a staff of an office manager, and 3 maintenance personnel and conduct the business of the Association.
Harbor Town Owners are proud of their Complex, the Association and the history behind the community.
